Weekly Reflection 1
During the first two classes, we discussed the importance of privacy, consent, and āmost likely to succeedā. When it comes to privacy and consent in the classroom It is important to teach students about privacy and consent because they should be educated on what both privacy and consent are and how they can protect themselves when sharing information online. Something I learned from this lesson was that the website for the office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada have a privacy quiz that classes can take to learn about privacy and consent. This quiz can be used in a variety of age ranges; for younger ages, teachers can put the quiz up on their projector and go through the test together as a class, or for the older ages, each student go through it on their own. We also discussed how teachers can use different websites and ways to make them and their class stay anonymous online. For the teachers they can make Bitmojiās to help make a website more personalized without showing the internet what they look like. For students, their are websites like Padlet.com where students can be anonymous while answering questions given by the teacher. This helps classes be safe and private. Two of the tools I liked was the privacy information for school districts videos (https://vimeo.com/showcase/11545415) and the URL shorting tool (bit.ly ). Both can be super useful for teachers in the classroom so that the class environment is both safe and information is easy to access.Ā
In the video on Brightspace, āMost Likely to Succeedā, it discusses the debate between traditional and project-based learning in the American school system. The video explores how we can make school more enjoyable and inclusive through reform and changes to the traditional system. The video explained that this can be done to help students learn more effectively, but parents are concerned about how their kids will be able to get into colleges without the traditional grades and curricula. Overall, to change the way students are taught and how they learn, there needs to be some rethinking on how students can learn effectively and how they are assessed. I enjoyed learning about privacy, consent, and the different ways students can learn in a non-traditional environment.Ā
