Weekly Reflection 5
This week I really enjoyed being able to go even more in depth on the resources available on the Focused Education website. I enrolled in both the Digital Classroom for K-7 and the NFB K-12: More than Just Great Canadian Films lectures. Learning about the website’s options to fit learners’ needs was great to see and discuss. I especially liked the feature that allows the books on “World Book” being able to be put into other languages than English; which I believe is super important when there are students who are still learning English (ELL students). The NFB films lecture discussed the importance of showing films from different places around the world from different ages, along with how films are a great way to show representation in the classroom. We discussed what we as future educators would like to see from the NFB in efforts to have them give teachers access to films related to topics like Indigenous education and multicultural films. We also talked about certain films available like “The Stand” by Chris Auchter on NFB. The film is from 2024 and is about the Haida Nation and the changed course of Canadian history.
Overall, I learned about all the different resources available to me as a future teacher and I am excited to be able to implement them in my future classroom!
