Weekly Reflection Post 6

This week we discussed theories and models for the classroom. In the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9b5yvgKQdqE  it talked about the SAMR model. The SAMR model goes over S: substitution which is when tech acts as a direct substitute with no functional change so instead of a student using pen and paper they could use speech to text or typing on a chromebook, A: augmentation which is the same as substitution but with functional change, M: modification, tech allows for significant task redesign so a student could use apps to help them record themselves talking about a project and maybe adding other factors into the recording, and finally R: redefinition, tech allows for the creation of new tasks; students could use the school ipads to make a play about a book they were reading in a class book study. While there are some considerations to make when using models like SAMR, for example, class size and how students feel about using technology, the models can be helpful for students with learning needs and it can be a fun way to incorporate cross curricular activities.

The tool of the week we discussed is called Classroomscreen (pictured below).

This website allows teachers to project online whiteboards they can customize in the classroom. It has tons of interesting features like:

  1. Personalizable backgroundsĀ
  2. A place to put up instructions for a taskĀ
  3. Timers
  4. ClasslistĀ
  5. PollsĀ
  6. Name randomizerĀ

This is a useful tool that can help both students and teachers stay organized and on the same page when it comes to classroom tasks; and I am excited to try it out in future classrooms.
